What is STEM?
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The goal is to expose students to engaging, future focused learning experiences by integrating the four disciplines together into one classroom program.
Students learn to apply knowledge and develop high-order thinking skills through contextually relevant learning opportunities, with the hope of inspiring students to take up a career in STEM later in life.
Both boys and girls are given opportunities to participate in each of these programs. The remainder of these pages are dedicated to showcasing the achievements of Girls in STEM as part of our Digital Literacy School Grant requirements.
Why focus on girls in STEM?
Currently there is a shortage of skilled workers and students in STEM related careers. However, this is only part of the problem women tend to be under-represented in STEM education and training across most countries, including Australia. Statistics from around the world continue to show that women make up less than 20% of the current STEM workforce.
At Haberfield Public School, we are keen to change this trend by fostering an environment where women and girls can lead and excel in STEM subjects. As such, we have dedicated a section of our school website to highlighting the amazing achievements and activities of girls in STEM at HPS. Contact us Payments Subscribe DEC Login School eNews Back
