Our school offers a wide variety of Friday afternoon sports. Some of the sports offered to our children include swimming, tennis, dance, indoor soccer, badminton and aerobics. The school also participates in the inter-school P.S.S.A. winter and summer competitions. Softball, soccer, A.F.L., cricket and netball are offered to boys and girls. Major emphasis and expectations are placed on participation and team spirit.
Students from Years 2-6 participate in our Annual Swimming Carnival, Cross Country and Athletics Carnival. Children from K-2 participate in the Infants Athletics Carnival in Term 3. Parents and friends are warmly encouraged to attend and support their children at all carnival events.
Another major emphasis is placed on the development and implementation of a school fitness program across K-6, incorporating Fundamental Movement Skills. Kindergarten to Year 2 and Year 4 students also participate in a Gymnastics.
Western Suburbs PSSA
Our school is a member of the Western Suburbs Primary School’s Sports Association.
Our ZONE covers 22 schools from the inner west of Sydney and the Association is a member of the Sydney East Primary School’s Sports Association which is affiliated with the New South Wales Primary Schools’ Sports Association.
The Association was formed in 1969 with the aim of promoting sport through inter-school competition among the Zone’s primary school children.
The total population of these schools is approximately 5200 boys and girls aged eight to thirteen years.
At the beginning of each season, trials will be held in each sport in which Haberfield PS participate in as part of the WSPSSA. Ability to perform as a member of a team is paramount in this selection procedure.
The sports in which we choose to participate will be determined by school policy, needs of students and the ability to meet guidelines/criteria as set out by the Association.
Children, who are absent due to ill health or family circumstances, may be considered for selection or trial at a later date.
Representatives have additional responsibilities including:
